In 2009, the urban planning department of the Verdun borough proposed a plan to revitalize its neighbourhood through the integration of urban murals. This is the context in which MU produced their first Verdun mural entitled Le Marais, (a collaboration between Roadsworth and Phil Allard). The positive impact of this first intervention encouraged a continuation of these kinds of murals in the area. This mural entitled Tropical, was created by the artist ASTRO and is the fifth of its kind produced by MU.
The creation of Tropical also represents the efforts made by the OPA (opération populaire d’aménagement) for the redevelopment of the neighborhood and will revitalize the area by lending it new vivid colors.
Cultural mediation workshops made in collaboration with the organization Toujours ensemble were given in relation to this mural and involved local youth.
