“This is the first time I can express myself like this.” This sentence, spoken by a young newcomer from Ukraine in a Radio-Canada report, resonates deeply with the spirit of the Laisse ta trace project, conducted this winter at Centre Lasallien.
For 15 weeks, young people learning French (ages 12 to 17) gathered every Wednesday to explore mural art, meet engaged artists, discover various techniques, dream together — and above all, build a common narrative, a collective work. Collage, fanzine, ink, linocut, mural visits: so many mediums for learning, expressing oneself, and forging connections.
Centre Lasallien, a faithful and valuable partner, is a place of listening and momentum, where culture becomes a tool for integration, self-esteem, and shared pride. Even when life imposes sudden departures — like this creative youth who returned to his country after eight workshops — the traces remain. A souvenir package was sent to him: because his contribution matters, and because every voice deserves to be celebrated.
