MU is a nonprofit organization co-founded in 2006 by Elizabeth-Ann Doyle and Emmanuelle Hébert, whose primary mission is to transform Montreal’s public spaces through community-based murals. In addition, through its educational program, MU offers mural art workshops for young people in schools and other community centers.

We are convinced that our murals contribute to social equity by providing access to art for everyone. Through our “Cultural Builders” collection, we aim to highlight the richness of our cultural heritage by paying tribute to the individuals who have actively contributed to the local, national, and international influence of our local arts scene.

Since 2006, MU has:

300 permanent murals
19 beautified boroughs
430 collaborative murals in schools
$7 million in fees paid to visual artists
20 permanent employees
