About
As part of the renovation work on the exterior of the Théâtres building, la Place des Arts has commissioned MU to product a mural that will cover, until 2028, the construction hoarding surrounding the Esplanade.
Created by artist and illustrator Maylee Keo, with the participation of young people from Les Habitations Jeanne-Mance, this artwork plunges passersby and visitors into the heart of the world of live performance. It also celebrates the vibrant, collective spirit of la Place des Arts, where a great diversity of audiences mingle every day.
The mural is designed as a joyful journey through the world of la Place des Arts. Using Maylee Keo’s colourful and playful graphic style, it showcases the artistic disciplines that animate the venue — music, dance, theatre, opera, festivals — while incorporating scenes of everyday Montreal life, birds, flowers, families, animals, and architectural references specific to this place. This mural transforms the construction hoarding and affirms that, even during renovation work, creativity remains at the heart of la Place des Arts.
Assistants: MU’s artistic team, including Justin, Julie, Julien, Michaela, Catherine, Mathilde, Lili-Rose, Alex, Fanny, Justine, and Margaux.
