About

2-Spirit Symbiosis is a mural created by artist Cedar-Eve that celebrates the theme of Two-Spirit identity among Indigenous peoples. This term is reserved exclusively for Indigenous peoples to describe individuals who embody a balance between masculine and feminine energies. It encompasses gender and sexual identities, as well as historical, cultural, and spiritual elements specific to the Indigenous cultures of Turtle Island.

According to the artist, Indigenous communities have traditionally revered Two-Spirit people. This worldview allows for navigating the world through multiple lenses, recognizing that we are all interconnected across different planes of existence. “Most people simply want to be seen, understood, and loved,” she says.

The artwork—the very first in Montréal dedicated to this theme—serves as a reminder of the interconnection of all beings. This initiative stems from a desire to take concrete action against racism and discrimination toward Indigenous peoples and helps to break down the barriers between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds.
