About
Hydro-Québec partnered with MU to improve the quality of life for residents through murals, helping to better integrate its infrastructure into the urban landscape.
The mural “Écho”, created by Cyndie Belhumeur, draws inspiration from brutalist architecture and the energy of the hydroelectric power station. It blends visual elements that represent movement and resonance, creating a dialogue with the building’s massive concrete structure.
The two large circular forms at the center symbolize echo, illustrating radiating sound waves. The tension between these circles creates a moment of compression before the release of energy, evoking duality and cyclical repetition, found in nature, water, and electricity. Variations in shades of blue express vibrational intensity, with the deep blue at the center representing a source of energy radiating outward.
