About

Montreal is the cycling capital of North America. Biking is a core part of Montreal’s identity and contributes to the city’s international reputation. The mural displayed on the wall of the Maison des cyclistes highlights a unique and unifying place where both local and international cyclists come to find information, equipment, and tools — or simply to enjoy a coffee.

In 2024–2025, cycling in Quebec celebrates several major anniversaries: the 30th anniversary of the Maison des cyclistes and the Route verte, as well as the 40th anniversary of the Tour de l’Île de Montréal. These milestones reflect a rich history and the Montreal community’s deep commitment to cycling in all its forms.

The mural, created by artist LSNR, stands as a powerful symbol of Montreal’s cycling heritage and a striking visual landmark for residents and visitors alike. It also complements the redevelopment of Brébeuf Street, begun in 2024, which transformed the corner in front of the Maison des cyclistes into a public square. This new, friendly, and safe space invites passersby and cyclists to stop, admire, and make the mural their own — echoing the spirit of sharing and connection that defines active transportation spaces. It serves as a reminder of the central role of cycling in Montreal’s identity and its importance in building inclusive and welcoming communities.

Through this work of art, both the history and the future of cycling in Montreal are celebrated.
