About
On the occasion of its 60th anniversary, the City of Laval is launching La force du rêve, a participatory art project highlighting children’s rights through the creation of murals at the Centre de la nature. This inclusive initiative invited young people from Laval to reflect on and express their views about their rights, then vote for the mural of their choice.
Workshops were held with more than 20 local organizations by Laval-based mediator Lelia Sfeir to raise awareness among youth about children’s rights and to identify which rights resonated most with them. MU and the City of Laval then invited six artists to design a mural project inspired by the ideas and reflections that emerged from these workshops. The designs were then submitted to a vote by the young participants through a mediation activity facilitated by the Laval organization Métalude. The three finalists selected were Kezna Dalz, Doras, and Guillaume Perreault.
Libre de s’amuser (“Free to Have Fun”) by artist Kezna Dalz was chosen by children aged three to five. It draws inspiration from a principle of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child: “I have the right to have a home, to play, to live in a clean, healthy, and safe environment, to have fun, to laugh and have friends, to go to school, and to be protected from racism.” The mural aims to emphasize the importance of play in children’s social development and well-being. It depicts children of various backgrounds and genders playing together on a flourishing planet.
