About

As part of a series of creative workshops offered by MU, students in the visual arts program at Édouard-Montpetit High School were invited to reflect on what inspires, drives, and unites them. The brainstorm activity took the form of a collage built from a collective lexical field, revealing themes that matter deeply to the students: music, photography, team spirit, and the importance of paying tribute to their arts program within the school space.

Their past projects—such as urban knitting around the school’s trees—found new life in the mural, along with their love of music, represented by a vinyl-record moon and a phonograph releasing a bird in negative. The artwork also evokes the friendships formed through artistic collaboration and the exploration of light in photography. The theme of travel, ever-present at the school through exchanges and cultural outings, appears in the mural as an invitation to discover the world through art.

The result of around ten workshops led by MU and its collaborating artists, this mural is a vibrant celebration of creativity, sharing, and the richness of the students’ lived experiences.
