Kaori Izumiya was born and raised in Japan and has been living abroad for the past few years and is currently residing in Quebec, Canada. She studied oil painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and after graduating had some successful group and solo exhibitions in Tokyo and New Zealand, as well as a professional career in Animation and illustration. As a fine artist, she enjoys painting in oils and acrylics and has been experimenting with various mediums across the years.Her style has been constantly evolving, following the changes in her life.
These paintings leave the single subject laying bare on the canvas in a minimalist fashion, forcing us to look at them and letting them tell us of their existence, no matter how ordinary they are. Kaori’s engagement for feminism and diversity is also visible on the website in a series of illustrations done in collaboration with a woman gynaecologist in Japan, tackling various women issues.
