About
We had no desire to depict COVID-19, but we felt it was important to do something to mark this momentous year in a lasting way. True to our mission and values, we hoped to create an engaging mural that spread beauty, goodwill and meaning.
In the spring of 2020, Évelyne de la Chenelière wrote. She reflected on the pandemic, on how it affected our lives and our connections to each other. Meanwhile, Cyndie Belhumeur embroidered. Her work seeks to give material form to the flow of information, to the invisible networks that connect us. In the fall of 2020, Cyndie created a mural using Évelyne’s phrases, the words like woven wires represent the importance of our bonds and connections. An encounter between literature and visual art, between artistic thoughts and gestures born out of the confinement, L’espace entre nous is a dreamlike mural, a testament to the pandemic and the humanity it has brought out in us.
