About

This collective mural was created in the corridor of the École secondaire Marguerite-de-Lajemmerais as part of the Leave Your Mark program.

Following two brainstorming workshops with the students, one more of an ideation type including photographic portraits of the youth, the other based on a collage workshop, the artists and art educators produced a model that reflects the interests and identity of the students taking part in the mural project. In the aftermath of the pandemic, the mask was known as a face-hiding device. In this mural, the mask is represented more as revealing the identity of the person. Artist and educator Kassandra Quinteros, originally from Chile, was inspired by Chilean masked carnivals. The idea of colorful abstraction and the conflict between nature and culture is also addressed.

Part of the mural allowed the educators to teach the students how to marouflage by gluing their photographic portrait into a large format photograph.

Art educators: Julie Legault-Béliveau and Kassandra Quinteros
