About

This project is the first of a series of 3 murals, realized in the heart of three mythical alleys in downtown Montreal. Combining public art and vegetal, this pilot beautification project is the result of a collaboration between Montréal centre-ville, Tourisme Montréal and MU, with the support of the City of Montréal, with the objective of encouraging the public to see and appropriate the alleys in a different way in order to make them spontaneous meeting places in the heart of the city.

Peel Alley opens with two murals by artist Rafael Sottolichio, who presents his works “like a cabinet of curiosities where the character and form of the objects draw theaters and a catalog, the different “vignettes” find a way to tie things to the gaze and to the discourse. The structure, by organizing the heterogeneous, allows to be incorporated in the language, in the poetry”. The design was completed in the summer of 2022 with colorful furniture with integrated greening elements making the space ideal for a gourmet break or a moment of relaxation, near the many restaurants, cafes and stores downtown.
