About
This project was born from a citizen initiative led by a parent whose children attend Notre-Dame-de-Lourde School. Thanks to his energy and commitment, the idea quickly resonated with the borough, Groupe Jean Coutu, and many partners. The donations needed to fund the mural were gathered through a crowdfunding campaign.
Les Oiseaux is part of Verdun’s cultural momentum, strengthening the critical mass of artworks and initiatives that make the borough a key cultural destination. Created by Catherine Ocelot, the mural incorporates various elements inspired by the mediation workshops conducted with students from Notre-Dame-de-Lourde School. The presence of water recalls the Lachine Canal, while the door evokes that of a classroom door opening onto a world full of adventure. The protective birds watch over the children and their imagination, allowing them to pursue their dreams and discoveries of the world. Blending imagination and adventure, the artist highlights young people’s desire for discovery and the importance of nature in the Verdun neighborhood, as in the city of Montreal.
