About
La Maison du développement durable called upon MU to create a mural that resonates with the many local initiatives to improve the area that are already underway in the Quartier des spectacles sector, specifically on the Esplanade Tranquille.
The mural is divided into several segments, according to the building’s panels. Each section represents a sample of life on earth: tree rings, fingerprints, a dragonfly, coral, a flower, an owl, etc. The connections between the figures are central to the approach, underscoring just how much they depend on one another. These links between the elements and their interdependence is at the heart of the notion of sustainable development.
The selected artist, Roadsworth, started painting the streets of Montreal in 2001. Initially motivated by questions surrounding the lack of bike lanes and the dominance of car culture, he has developed a singular language using stencils and articulated around road signs and other elements in the urban landscape.
